Hips & Spine - An Ashtanga Second Series Workshop
Inna Costantini | 2–4.30pm | 10 JUNE 2023 | Price: £35
In this workshop, we explore different aspects of the Second Series, beginning with the fundamentals of the practice – not just the postural rhythm and flow, but also the dynamic connections between breath, movement and focused attention.
The Second Series, or Nadi Shodana, is the clearing of ‘nadis’- subtle channels through which our energy moves. The practice is said to purify the nervous system, though a strong combination of backbends, rotations, hip opening, inversions and strength based postures. This allows us to open ourselves up to experience and allow prana to flow freely throughout the body.
This extended class will bring some insight into the physical, emotional and spiritual aspects of the practice, with a strong focus on ‘hip opening’. Taking time to explore possibilities, individual modifications, and alignment, whist adapting some poses to our unique selves, we will seek to free up pathways that help us find greater ease and space in our body.
This is a stimulating sequence which requires steadiness of mind and attentive awareness to body, so we need a strong foundation and support from our breath. We will end with some time in stillness and mindful breathing.
The classes will cover:
- Physical and technical foundations
- Explore elements of the practice that are not always explored in detail in class.
- Energetic dimension of the asana practice
