Kids Yoga Teacher Training Course Content

Techniques, Training + Practice 

Yoga based practice appropriate for child development such as;  

  • Asana based movement:  Creative Sequencing, Themes 
  • Yoga Based Games 
  • Mindfulness + Meditation 
  • Breathing Techniques 
  • Sacred Song – Chanting (Mantras + English Speaking Songs) 
  • Sacred Sound (Nada Yoga) 
  • Poetry + Inspirational Creative Writing  
  • Conscious Creatives   
  • Welcome Circles + Card Intention Pulling 
  • Setting up your environment 

 

Anatomy + Physiology  

  • In alignment with child development for 5-11yrs with a yoga focus and awareness. 
  • Study of the subject and application of its principles to yoga practice benefits, contraindications, healthy movement patterns. 

Yoga Science  

  • Chakras 
  • Koshas 
  • Plant Based Science – Aromatherapy Essential Oils – learn how the application of oils; internal, topically, environmentally can impact the children’s wellbeing and intention of the class.  

 

Yoga Philosophy 

  • Introduction to yoga precepts as they relate to children and to teaching Yoga to children e.g Yamas and Niyamas.  
  • Awareness of ethical behaviour; county and local legal requirements as related to behaviour with and supervision of children. 
  • Specific training in parameters and techniques of ethical touch with regards to teaching.  
  • basics of ethical language and behaviour, both when parents or guardians are present and when they are not. 

 

Practicum 

  • Practicum hours are divided between hours spent observing a specialty class and hours spent teaching a specialty class. A portion of each type of hours needs to be with the Lead Trainer.  
  • Observing + Contact Hours – spent observing another teacher lead a Children’s Yoga Class in your local community or school. As indicated above a portion of these hours must be spent with Lead Trainer. (Face2Face on TT Weekend and Online)  
  • Case Study – 1 block of 6 classes to a group of children. To provide feedback and write a summary of how your classes went. (Record online with Parents Permission to share to me for assessment)

General Background in the Specialty Area  

  • Includes the study and understanding of all childhood development stages from 5-11yrs. 
  • Supporting Children with additional needs; physical, mental, emotional such as; Autism, ADHD, Cerebral Palsy, Dyspraxia, Wheelchair Users, Behavioural Issues.  
  • All five of Yoga Alliances Educational Categories are to address the specifics appropriate developmental for each age group (5-8yrs + 8-11yrs) 
  • Also includes the understanding of the Yoga Teachers relationships with parents/guardians and developmental specialists and basic communication skills for conducting those relationships.

  • All Potential Trainees are required to attend an informal interview before being accepted onto the course to answer any further questions with regards to the course and to ensure this is the right course for them.  
  • Completed Application Form Attendance on all training days.  
  • Any missed modules or part-modules must be made in home study assignments. Assessments – 1 Practical & 1 Online Q+A Reflection 
  • Homework – Diary, Personal Practice, Reading, Practice ‘Subjects’ & create your own Manual including Class Plans

Charli Van Ness

About Lead Trainer Charli Van Ness

Charli teaches Classes, Workshops, Teacher Trainings and Retreats to the community of all ages, especially to those who are vulnerable or in recovery. She has been teaching since 2005 and is an E-RYT 500hrs Yoga Teacher. She has run her own RYS 200hrs Teacher Training School since 2007 and collaborates with the Shala School of Yoga on our 200-hour Teacher Training Course for those wishing to become teachers or for self development. She also teaches on the Shala School of Yoga’s 300-hour Level 2 programme and delivers monthly workshops at the centre.

Being a YACEP Provider, Charli also runs short CPD Courses – KulaKids Teacher Training, Padme Humm Sound Healing CPD Training + Women’s Wellbeing CPD Training. Charli is in absolute JOY when sharing her healing modality ‘Sound Energy Medicine’ (VibroAcoustic Therapy) + Womb Mandala Healing delivered in Groups, Privately + to accompany Art Therapy and Massage Therapists in Treatments. 

Charli is a mamma to 4 children, 2 dogs + devoted to her life partner Matt. Off the mat her aim is to live a life full of heart, compassion, creativity, empathy with an ethical ethos in everything she does….whether its making a fire, getting messy in the kitchen, climbing the walls, walking in the forest, to dancing her heart out with family + friends. Living a simple but full life in East Sussex. Charli is in love with the ‘human body’ and since she was 2yrs old she has enjoyed the art of movement, this has included her teaching to the community Dance, Acrobatics, Yoga and her recent passion Climbing to help climbers improve their performance with Yoga.
