Shiatsu is a deeply relaxing and uplifting form of bodywork that originated in Japan. It has its roots in Chinese medical theory and has more recently been influenced by Western body therapies. Through focused touch and breathing, an energetic communication takes place which results in diagnosis and treatment occurring simultaneously. No oils are used in a Shiatsu treatment and it takes place with the receiver fully clothed.
Each treatment is specifically designed for the receiver using a variety of techniques. Pressure is applied by the hands, arms, knees and feet to the energetic channels of the body, to rebalance the circulation of Qi, which has an effect on the surrounding soft tissues. Gentle stretches are used to release areas of tension and manipulations of the joints bring an increased freedom of movement. Acupuncture points are also stimulated to help with specific issues. Shiatsu can help to strengthen areas of weakness and release areas of stiffness and pain. It can help to reduce emotional and physical symptoms relating to a stressful lifestyle. It can be used as a support during pregnancy, childbirth and postnatal care and can be given alongside conventional medical treatment.
A Shiatsu treatment will provide you with a supportive space to let go of the tension in your mind and body, activate innate healing processes and revitalise your energy.
