Chair Yoga | VIRTUAL
Dina Cohen | 1Sep (recorded content release) 19 Sep intro session, 30 Sept livestream session | 20 hours | Price: £195
Chair Yoga is an immensely beneficial practice for everyone, not just seniors and the less able-bodied, but also for those who would like to learn different ways to enjoy their yoga practice without having to get up and down from the floor: office workers, those travelling often and those with limited space…and anyone who finds themselves sitting down with 5 minutes to spare. Chair yoga is derived from traditional yoga, and this course provides a creative take on using the chair as an extension as well as support in our yoga practice. Teaching Chair yoga to students can be a highly purposeful endeavour, sometimes freeing those practising to move in ways that are not otherwise accessible, opening up a world with a much broader range of movements and associated physical, mental and energy-inducing health benefits. This fun, interactive course will provide you with new skills and creative ideas to offer your friends, family or in classes.
This course takes the format of:
– a library of content released on 1 September with 3 months access
– a pre-course meeting on 19 September
– a full fun and interactive day livestream online.
This course can be attended as a stand-alone course or as an optional module on our Yoga Alliance accredited 300-hour programme.
Chair Yoga Course Content
Making sure your yoga is accessible to all is a beautiful gift to give to others. In this course we will look at ways to make yoga accessible for all and especially how to incorporate different requirements within one group. This can be the biggest challenge for teachers and one of the reasons that they don’t widen and diversify the range of students taught in one session. We’ll be sitting in a chair, standing and balancing with the aid of a chair and moving around the chair.
Course contents:
- chairs and props
- structure and planning
- warming up
- adapting asana
- working with limited mobility
- modifications for seniors and less able-bodies
- modifications for those with greater strength and flexibility
- ideas for office yoga
- relaxation and Restorative options
There’ll be plenty of opportunity to put it all into practice, with smaller group and breakout room sessions for teaching practice, feedback and discussion.
