Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga purifies the mind and body as a potent form of moving meditation. This powerful and dynamic practice takes you through a series of postures from the primary series (Yoga Chikitsa), offering a balance of energy and physicality which culminates in a profound stilling of the mind. The practice is characterised by its flowing and rhythmic nature, with an emphasis on synchronizing breath to movement. This practice is energising yet deeply relaxing, challenging yet nurturing, and strengthening yet releasing. The practice offers a wide range of benefits.
Here at The Shala, we offer a range of Ashtanga and Vinyasa yoga classes to accommodate yogis of all levels:
Ashtanga Yoga: This is an open-level energizing class which focuses on linking movement to the breath. Modifications are offered and there is never any pressure to “attain” poses, just guidance to tune in, explore and listen to the needs of your own individual body.
Ashatanga Yoga: Self Practice: This is a form of moving meditation that gently calms the mind and strengthens the body. Students work autonomously with a teacher who gives 1:1 guidance within the group setting. The class is characterized by stillness, quiet, focus and ujjayi breathing creating a holistic and self-directed yoga practice.
Vinyasa Classes: We offer a range of vinyasa-based “Flow” yoga classes that blend dynamic movements with breath awareness, promoting flexibility, strength, and a sense of mindful flow. These range from gentle beginners and meditative flow classes to more invigorating creative and dynamic flow classes.
