The first in a series of five not-to-be-missed Yoga and Qigong Workshops starts at the Shala on Saturday 25 April with a Spring practice to foster clear vision, resourcefulness and flexibility.

Integrating the wellbeing practices of yoga and qigong has long been a deep interest with us at the Shala and we are delighted to be hosting the truly inspiring Mimi Kuo-Deemer who will run a series of seasonal workshops, incorporating qigong and yoga practices and their relationships to the natural changes in the body with the seasons of the year.

Mimi is a gifted teacher. Her deep knowledge of Daoist teaching and yoga are passed on to students in an easy, informative way. With Mimi you are immediately stuck by her warmth and humour, by her understanding of these ancient practices, and by her modern and unique way of teaching them.

Qigong is a Chinese energy healing and martial art with roots in Daoism; it integrates the virtues of trust, integrity, wisdom, and compassion into the human body and spirit. Like yoga, it uses deep breathing, meditation, and static or dynamic movements to promote greater health and vitality. See videos of Mimi teaching here.

“Mimi is one of those rare, gifted teachers you meet maybe once in a lifetime: she imparts her knowledge effortlessly and gracefully, with a vast reservoir to call upon. Over the years I’ve been deeply struck by her intuitive understanding of the most subtle nuances of human physiology and anatomy. What may be her greatest gift is her ability to shape and lead fantastic yoga classes — she does it gently and compassionately but with vibrancy and strength.”
