Yin is most definitely in!

In our busy lives we often find ourselves caught up in ‘doing’ mode, which can be described as Yang. Yang is the idea of active, outward-facing activities represented by the sun. Yin is the direct opposite, cooling, inward-facing mode of ‘being’ and represented by the moon. Of course, we need both these qualities for a balanced life. Indeed, Yin is the perfect antidote to a Yang lifestyle.

This workshop will introduce you to Yin Yoga and unpack what makes it different from other forms of yoga and, what better way to understand what it is and how it works on the body than to experience it! We will follow a sequence of poses, designed for the Autumn/ Winter season, gently opening the whole body.

Yin Yoga is a slower introspective practice where we focus on the breath while holding a pose in stillness at our ‘edge’, for a longer period of time than in dynamic yoga practice. The focus on the breath in Yin Yoga promotes a sense of deep calm and relaxation, allowing the body, to soften and tension to yield using gravity. Yin Yoga focuses on stressing the ligaments, joints and the deep connective tissue (fascia) in our fragile or less flexible joints; areas where we can hold onto significant tension.

Yin Yoga has its roots in the system of Traditional Chinese Medicine, and works to stimulate the flow of energy through the system of energy channels in the body (Meridians). It is this energy flow, which releases tension from the body.
