Strength for Yoga

with Kate Towers | 2:00 - 4:00 pm | Sunday 29 June 2025 | Price: £35

Do you supplement your yoga practice with resistance training?

Do you integrate ‘strength’ movements into your yoga practice?

If the answer is “NO” to these questions, then what about rethinking your approach to your overall movement strategy…?

After the age of 30 we lose on average 6-7% of our muscle mass every decade; which can accelerate for women in peri-menopause and menopause.  Post 50, women are also likely to lose around 1-3% of their bone density per year.  Women are also more prone to developing osteoporosis (brittle bones) than men.

Many students come to yoga to develop more flexibility; which is a great goal to work towards, but – flexibility is only part of the equation when it comes to your wellbeing.  So, why focus on building strength:

  • it’s key to injury prevention
  • Important when in rehabilitation after or during injured
  • human beings need strength to carry out every day activities
  • our bones adapt to the load we place on them, so the stronger we are, the better we age!
  • strength training releases endorphins (your happy hormones!)
  • resistance training GIVES you energy as it improves your metabolism
  • can aid sleep

In this workshop, Kate will be discussing the rationale for incorporating strength training into your week and introducing you to a number of general exercises which can really facilitate your yoga practice as well as improve your general strength level.  Prepare to be challenged!
