Inversions - Deconstructed

2:00 - 4:30 pm | Saturday 22 June 2024 | Harriet Bone | £35

An inversion can be defined as any pose in which your head is lower than your heart; there are a number of times you’ll be mildly inverted in a yoga practice, take downward dog for example, or a standing forward fold. Then there are poses that invert your body to its maximum, where your legs and torso are raised vertically over your heart and head.

The aim of this workshop is to empower you to access inversions whatever your level, with accessible variations of traditional inverted poses; you will have a chance to playfully put into practice techniques and variations to help you feel confident in developing these poses in a safe and supportive way.

In a relaxed workshop environment you will be led through a short asana practice to prepare you for the rest of the workshop. The warm up will focus on both strength and mobility in key areas including wrists and shoulders as well as developing core stability. Then there will be lots of time given to play, explore and enjoy the process of learning these challenging, rewarding and extremely beneficial postures. The session will be packed with accessible ways to practice inversions and give you an array of different variations to take with you into your own practice.

PLEASE NOTE:

This workshop is not suitable if you have high blood pressure, glaucoma or are currently pregnant or recently post natal. It is also not suitable for anyone who is new to practicing yoga.

About Harriet Bone

With a background in contemporary dance,  Harriet Bone, started practicing yoga upon completing her dance studies, finding great benefit from the mindful approach to movement, breath and the space for introspection, to develop clarity and calm.

Then, when moving to London she discovered the Jivamukti method, taking her first class with Emma Henry. The integrated method grabbed her instantaneously and she went on to train with the Jivamukti school in 2013. Since then she has been teaching full time in a number of London’s most established studios. She went on to train as a Pregnancy Yoga teacher under the guidance of Alexa Dean and as a Teens yoga teacher to which she brings her hallmark calm and centred energy.

Through her classes she hopes to provide a calm environment, a sense of community and space for everyone to find individual variations within the practice. In her Jivamukti classes, Harriet teaches a grounding, soulful physical practice with creative sequences and the option of hands on assists. Classes are structured to incorporate the five central tenets of Jivamukti yoga: scripture (shastra) devotion (bhakti), nonviolence (ahimsa), music (nāda) and meditation (dhyana).
