Motherhood is a time perceived by outsiders as joyful, rewarding and deeply satisfying. Of course there are times when it can be picture perfect, just like in the movies. But for a large majority of women, motherhood is the biggest challenge of their lives, a time in which everything they once knew about their world changes completely and changes forever.
In this workshop, led by Lindsay Gale (see below) and Ben Wolff from the Breathing Institute, we acknowledge that motherhood is not simply a walk in the park but rather an ultramarathon done on repeat. We understand that it can bring relentless exhaustion, anxiety like you never realised existed, deep monotonous boredom, Incredible Hulk level rage and heartbreaking loneliness.
Someone who clearly lived in a supportive village full of kindly aunts once said, "it takes a village to raise a child", but in the absence of that, how do mothers handle the burden weighing them down? When there is little external support available, who is mothering the mother? When you feel trapped by your circumstances, how do you find the space to breathe?
Let us show you how.
In this workshop for mothers at any stage of their mothering journey, we demonstrate breathwork practices that are the most useful, rapidly effective and easy to learn so that you can access them in minutes, sometimes seconds, without them becoming just another unachievable self-care burden.
In this workshop we gift you some strategies for:
- Loss of Identity
- Rage and Despair
- Loneliness and Isolation
- Low Mood
- Anxiety and Stress
All done with the wonder of breath, the magic of neuroscience and the power of imagination, so that simply surviving can turn into thriving.
More about Lindsay Gale
Lindsay Gale began working with mothers in 2011 as a pre and post-natal yoga teacher and has dedicated the last ten years of her teaching practice to supporting women as they transition into motherhood. In 2012 Lindsay had two life changing experiences: she became a mother herself and trained as a Birth Doula, going on to support many women during pregnancy, birth and into the postpartum period.
Lindsay remembers the early days of motherhood as a combination of profound moments of joy, love and pleasure, mixed with severe exhaustion, isolation and low mood. She avoided the usual baby groups full of seemingly happy mums whose babies slept all night and set up her own group, Mindful Mamas, designed to support the women who recognised their experience of motherhood as something very different from that portrayed in the movies. It was this group that made Lindsay realise the lack of support for women experiencing the secret sadness of being a mother and she knew that she had found her purpose.
Lindsay is passionate about supporting mothers physically, emotionally and mentally. She realises how difficult it is for women to grant themselves the time to employ strategies to help them do more than merely survive the parenting experience and she hopes this workshop will provide the relief they are looking for.
Lindsay has been teaching yoga since 1996 and is a Yoga Elder with the IYN. In addition to her specialist qualifications for the perinatal period, she has completed her Trauma Informed and Inclusive yoga training.
