Bodyrolling: Knee & Hamstring Focus

Yamuna Bodyrolling is a unique form of therapeutic work, which reorganises the mechanics of the body, elongating muscles and improving alignment. This month we focus on removing restriction from the knees and hamstrings.

Knee & Hamstring Focus - Yamuna Bodyrolling (YBR)

in South London

As part of our ongoing series of monthly Yamuna bodyrolling (YBR) workshops, this session will be focusing on the knees and hamstrings, which are common areas for injury. If you have an injury to your knee or hamstrings then this is a highly effective method to heal yourself. Bodyrolling gives you a self care treatment that enables you to heal yourself from injuries and to maintain health and flexibility in the body. Bodyrolling follows the logic of your body: the philosophy of the practice is to respect the way your muscles and joints flow. You learn routines to follow muscle and tendons from bone of origin to the point of insertion where they finish connecting into bone. This is key to releasing tight muscles and working through injury

The knee is a complex joint which can be slow to heal when injured. In this workshop we will focus on how to work the important supporting muscles of the knee from the hips, back, side and front of the legs. The toning and releasing will be noticeable from your first session.

For the hamstrings, it is common to overwork the hamstrings muscles with exercise such as running and cycling, and then sit in chairs for long periods which causes the muscles to shorten. Inactivity and sedentary lifestyles also causes muscle tone and bone to weaken and this is compounded by the natural ageing process which decreases our muscle mass and produces brittleness to bones. This method of rolling through specific lines of the body gives you a powerful self-fixing tool. Bodyrolling teaches you how to effectively stimulate, elongate and release the hamstrings, as well as the supporting muscles in the front of the legs and inner thighs. You will feel the freedom in the legs that can be achieved through mindful rolling. You will also feel more open in the hips. This practice is the perfect compliment to yoga, Pilates, dance, running, cycling or for anyone who wants to keep the legs flexible and moving freely without restriction.

Fundamentally, Bodyrolling enables us to:

  • maintain our bodies, preventing injuries
  • keep the body moving freely and without restriction at every age
  • improve circulation and organ function
  • keep the nerve roots of the spine activated and metabolically strong
  • keep the bones healthy and young to maintain the general health and well-being of the body

This workshop will help to bring the knees and hamstrings back to optimal function. You will learn routines to:

  • tone and elongate muscles
  • improve alignment
  • increase blood flow and circulation
  • stimulate nerve roots and organs
  • develop core strength
  • relax the nervous system
  • promote healing
