Breathing Institute founder Ben Wolff and senior Breathing Institute founding member Clare Macdonald come together to share their considerable experience and expertise in this exciting new training focused on sleep. 

This course is aimed at anybody wishing to support and understand how to improve sleep whether for themselves or for continued professional development. The knowledge and skills imparted draw upon a range of disciplines including breath work, neuroscience, physiology, clinical hypnotherapy and biochemistry. The course can be attended to enhance your life personally, or as a stand-alone (Yoga Alliance) accredited CPD training – and also as an optional module on our 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training programme

Course Overview

The Shala School of Yoga, in association with Ben Wolff and Clare MacDonald are extremely excited to present this new livestreamed VIRTUAL course. It is suitable for:

  • therapists, life coaches and health care professionals who wish to support clients with insomnia and sleep issues
  • yoga and mindfulness teachers wishing to deepen their knowledge of this topic. Those who wish to teach others can join The Breathing Institute - more information on this is at the bottom of the page
  • the general public who would like to learn simple tools to help and support themselves or a loved one

Sleep is e-ver-y-thing and disturbed sleep can be debilitating – the more we crave sleep the more elusive it can become. Why is this and what can we do to correct it? 

We will not be going over the familiar territory of caffeine, blue light and lavender, instead we will be combining the very latest in neuroscience, hypnotherapy, biochemical research, all brought together with the science of breath to teach you how to revolutionise sleep for yourself and or your clients, students and patients.

The course takes the form of two livestreamed "lecture-based" mornings over one weekend online. It explores a serious subject in an inspiring, compassionate and accessible way, with the opportunity to ask questions and interact via the chat function on Zoom.

  • This course can be taken as a stand-alone Yoga Alliance accredited course or as part of our 300-YA accredited programme
  • For those who wish to attend the livestreamed course, but cannot make some or all of the dates/times – Zoom video recordings are made available for seven days after the event, so it is not necessary to attend the livestreamed event. 
  • Anyone registered for the event, whether they attend live or not, will automatically get the 7-day catch up links plus audio recordings of the whole course, which are valuable resources to consolidate the learning
  • You will receive 10 accredited Level 2 hours as a stand-alone course or towards our 300-hour training.
  • If you go on to complete your 300-hour training, you can register as a RYT 500 teacher

    Ben Wolff

    Ben Wolff is a Breathwork Teacher, Yoga Teacher, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Dream Yoga practitioner with a profound depth of experience and understanding in his field. He is an engaging, compassionate and hugely knowledgeable teacher, whose enthusiasm for his subject is infectious and inspiring. 

    Ben has a remarkable understanding of contemporary scientific research into meditation, neuroscience and other fields. Brought on by his recovery from serious illness and nearly a decade of continuous research and investigation, Ben shares his findings from both ancient wisdom traditions and modern science in ways that are open and accessible to everyone. In his teachings you can expect to hear what's most useful, rapidly effective and easy to learn and participate in simple and safe practices that many have witnessed to be literally "life-changing".     Clare MacDonald

    Clare is a senior founding member of the Breathing Institute, Sleep and Dream Yoga enthusiast and Yoga Nidra teacher.  Much of her work over the past few years has been to encourage others to rest and improve the quality of their sleep. As a former insomniac Clare understands sleeplessness and is passionate about delivering information and techniques that really help.

    These sleep trainings, which Clare has co-created with Ben, is like no other. It offers a new perspective on the causes of sleeplessness (beyond the usual explanations; blue light, stress, caffeine etc) to liberate us from insomnia and reinvent the night for magic and loveliness. The sleep trainings provide M.U.R.E.E.L solutions (Most Useful Rapidly Effective Easily Learnt) with new ways to conquer insomnia and sleeplessness using many disciplines including the power of the breath, clinical hypnotherapy, biochemistry and neuroscience.

    As well as helping adults find a new relationship with sleep Clare also teaches parents how to help their children sleep. Her magical, playful and creative approach combines the breath, imagination, neuroscience, hypnotherapy and guided meditation.     • 300 hour students get a 10% discount on this training if they have booked three trainings with us including the core. Email us if this is the case and the discount will be applied when the balance is taken

    If you are suffering from a serious physical or mental illness, please consult us (confidentially) so that we are sure we can support you safely over this training. As non medical practitioners the training is not intended to replace conventional medical management.
  • Payment is non refundable but can be transferred to another person or course
  • In order to gain a Kite Mark of Approval to teach this methodology and become a member of The Breathing Institute, you will need to do the following

    • complete the 10 Questions
    • arrange a 121 session with one of the tutors, where you will specifically agreed what you may go on to teach 
    • you will then be invited to become a member of The Breathing Institute. A small fee  will be charged to cover website costs, should you wish us to feature your biog and work on the Breathing Institute website.
    • to maintain membership of the Breathing Institute, members will be required once a year to have a 121 follow up with Ben to receive ongoing support, access to latest research and information and to check in on protocol and troubleshoot problems.
    • * Sessions with Ben are at a discounted £108 per hour and normally an hour in duration


    Trainings at the Shala are run independently and all payments for training services are accepted on behalf of the individual teachers. 

    • The livestreamed elements of this training will be recorded and anyone who is unable to attend this part can email us to request a link to the recording, which will be available for 7 days after the event. 
    • Late cancellations and no shows will be charged as if you had attended. 
    • In the event that a workshop is cancelled by the Shala you will be offered a refund or the option to be transferred to an alternative event
