This course is aimed at anybody wishing to support and understand how to reduce common symptoms of the menopause and perimenopause. The knowledge and skills imparted draw upon a range of disciplines including breath work, neuroscience, physiology, clinical hypnotherapy, chronobiology and biochemistry. The course can be attended to enhance as a CPD, a stand-alone YA accredited training – and also as an optional module on our 300-hour programme

Course Overview

The Shala School of Yoga, in association with Ben Wolff and Ligia Cannon from the Breathing Institute are excited to present this new and much anticipated livestreamed VIRTUAL course. It is suitable for anybody wanting to understand these life stages and how to naturally support the symptoms that present with the menopause and perimenopause. It is suitable as a teacher training or a CPD for:

  • yoga and mindfulness teachers wishing to deepen their knowledge of this topic.Those who wish to teach others can join The Breathing Institute. More information on this is at the bottom of the page
  • therapists, life coaches and health care professionals who wish to support female clients going through these stages of life

The course takes the form of four "lecture-based" mornings over two weekends online, and includes Guest speaker Dr Minaxi Shantilal Gami. For those wishing to share the techniques and gain a Yoga Alliance accredited 30-hour training certificate, you are then invited to attend "Teaching Circles", which brings a practical focus to the training. Here you will work in breakout rooms teaching the techniques to one or more guests going through the menopause or perimenopause, where you will receive supervision and feedback. There will then also be a practical research project set to be completed over a period of 2 weeks.

This menopause training explores a serious subject in an inspiring, compassionate and accessible way, with the opportunity to ask questions and interact on the very lively chat.

Course Content

This course will provide you with clinically proven, effective tools to help alleviate symptoms including but not limited to:

  • hot flashes and night sweats
  • temperature change and sleep disruption
  • mood disorders and anxiety
  • weight gain
  • memory and brain fog
  • anger, rage and temper
  • pain, cramps and aching body

We will also look at how allowing optimum breathing patterns can enhance cognitive function, physical energy and a balanced awareness. You will learn both the practice and theory of protocols, which have reduced up to 80 per cent of symptoms in our private case study trials, the results of which can sometimes be instantaneous.

  • This course can be taken as a stand-alone Yoga Alliance accredited CPD or as part of our 300-YA accredited programme
  • For those who wish to attend the livestreamed course, but cannot make some or all of the dates/times – Zoom video recordings are made available for seven days after the event, so it is not necessary to attend the livestreamed event. 
  • Anyone registered for the event, whether they attend live or not, will automatically get the 7-day catch up links plus audio recordings of the whole course, which are valuable resources to consolidate the learning
  • You will receive 30 accredited Level 2 hours as a stand-alone course or towards our 300-hour training, this includes 23 "contact" hours of tuition, plus non-contact hours of prep/homework/research project.
  • Once you have completed your 300-hour training you can register as a RYT 500 teacher

Teacher Bio

Ben Wolff

Ben Wolff is a Breathwork Teacher, Yoga Teacher, Clinical Hypnotherapist and Dream Yoga practitioner with a profound depth of experience and understanding in his field. He is an engaging, compassionate and hugely knowledgeable teacher, whose enthusiasm for his subject is infectious and inspiring. 

Ben has a remarkable understanding of contemporary scientific research into meditation, neuroscience and other fields. Brought on by his recovery from serious illness and nearly a decade of continuous research and investigation, Ben shares his findings from both ancient wisdom traditions and modern science in ways that are open and accessible to everyone. In his teachings you can expect to hear what's most useful, rapidly effective and easy to learn and participate in simple and safe practices that many have witnessed to be literally "life-changing". Ligia Cannon

Ligia has successfully implemented a Menopause protocol, which she helped devise to assist menopausal women all over the world. This unique strategy aims to transform women’s experience of the menopause and perimenopause into one where they have control and influence. Ligia helped design and apply the approach while she herself was dealing with her own challenges transitioning into Menopause... and it worked for her brilliantly.

Ligia gladly gave up her career in Interior Architecture in favour of becoming a certified Yoga teacher. Ever since she can remember she has sought out The Natural Simplicity in Life, and has now managed to find and master the natural way through this so often problematic phase, for everyone's great benefit. 

Ligia was lucky to continue her journey working on this unique approach with Ben Wolff, the Founder of The Breathing Institute, who taught and guided her in acquiring skills and knowledge in Clinical Hypnotherapy, the Science and Art of Breathing, Neuroscience and EEG study, Chronobiology and Dream Yoga to name a few of the lenses brought to bear in this original and exciting highly effective work. When she's not making things she likes baking things, planting things...breaking things.

Dr Minaxi Shantilal Gami | Guest Teacher

One of the great experts in the techniques and principles at play within the Breathing institute's (BITA) body of work, Dr Minaxi Shantilala Gami is something of an archivist for BITA, having been an active part of the organisation for the last 5 years.

She has a pure science background, and as a post-doctoral Principle Researcher at Kings's College London, utilised a novel method of gene targeting in C. elegans combining skills in Molecular Biology and Genetics.

Minaxi is putting all her self-experimenting and experience into ways to tell others useful and practical ways to take the heat, the anxiety, the fatigue, the fog and the sleeplessness out of the menopause.

We are delighted to have such an original thinker play such a key role in the development and execution of this important work on menopause for women everywhere.

  • 300 hour students get a 10% discount on this training if they have booked three trainings with us including the core. Email us if this is the case and the discount will be applied when the balance is taken

In order to gain a Kite Mark of Approval to teach this methodology and become a member of The Breathing Institute, you will need to do the following

  • complete the 10 Questions
  • arrange a 121 session with one of the tutors, where you will specifically agreed what you may go on to teach 
  • you will then be invited to become a member of The Breathing Institute. A small fee  will be charged to cover website costs, should you wish us to feature your biog and work on the Breathing Institute website.
  • to maintain membership of the Breathing Institute, members will be required once a year to have a 121 follow up with Ben to receive ongoing support, access to latest research and information and to check in on protocol and troubleshoot problems.
  • * Sessions with Ben are at a discounted £108 per hour and normally an hour in duration
