Grief, love & loss

A blog by Natasha Palram on the tornados of confusion tied up with grief, a chance to heal and a door to loveliness.

Growing up I was always drawn to the bittersweet, the if only’s, the missed moments because in a strange way there is a sort of loveliness there. Hindsight offers us a chance to find meaning behind the ‘why it didn’t quite work out’, but most of the time we end up getting lost in regret and sadness. This is the same for grief.

When we lose a loved one our whole world becomes a tornado of confusion and no two tornados are the same. Some experience an emptiness, others a punch to the gut, a heaviness or tightness around the chest, uncontrollable tears to a feeling of numbness.

Experiencing grief can feel most intense right after a loss, or later on. It can feel like everything is ok and then one day, months or years later, your loss can feel like being hit by a train. Unpredictably. All over again…

For those who have suffered enough, I offer a door to loveliness, open it and discover the beauty that grief has to offer. An alternative perspective that heals the wounds, unplugs from heartache and into bliss through the power of breath and the imagination.

I’ve come to understand that we have the power to change the ending, that the reality being offered can be adapted and rewritten to make life that bit sweeter. Sure, this won’t bring back our loved ones in the form we were used to, but that doesn’t mean we can’t meet them, have a conversation or laugh hysterically with them again. So long as you’re open to the possibility give it a go. What have you got to lose?
