Mindfulness Meditation

Drop-in Classes In West Norwood & West Dulwich

This drop-in class provides a welcoming and safe environment to experience mindfulness meditation.

Mindfulness is the art of being present. It is simple but powerful and can fundamentally transform how you perceive life and how you react to stressful situations. With continued practice, we experience self acceptance and a sense of inner peace. This class will explore a series of practical techniques and exercises to bring you fully in to the present moment. Techniques include the Body Scan, Mindful Breathing, Mindful Movement, Mindful Eating and Mindful Walking. The class will also explore many different types of meditation practices from Samatha (single pointed concentration) Vipassana (insight ) and Loving Kindness meditations.

These practices are based on the Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) developed by Jon Kabat-Zinn and on mindful loving kindness practices developed by Thich Nhat Hanh. And from a wide range of different Buddhist traditions.

Mindfulness meditation is not about clearing the mind, but rather coming to see the mind’s patterns. Daily mindfulness meditation practice allows people to see the way in which certain patterns of mind lead to escalation of emotions, despite our best efforts to control them.

When people practice mindfulness meditation for any length of time, a number of qualities of their experience change. People say they feel more aware or awake, feel calmer and are more able to see clearly and gain freedom from their own emotional patterns and habits. They feel freer to be more compassionate to themselves and to others.

The overall aim of the class is for you to become self-sufficient in the practices so you are able to incorporate them in to your everyday life and fully experience the often-profound benefits. The warmth of sharing the practices creates a space of community and togetherness.

Every class will be completely different and unique from the last and will be taught by Seth Theodore Butcher a counsellor, psychotherapist and fully qualified UK network mindfulness based teacher.
