"What on earth is Non-Nutrition I hear you ask! Let me try to explain the concept...
In my role working as a Nutritional Therapist, clients come to see me because they are looking for solutions to their health issues and they have usually assumed those solutions are related to food.
As nutritionists with functional medicine training we are encouraged to look at the body as a whole and address all aspects of lifestyle alongside nutrition. However it is only as I have progressed with further learning and my own healing that I have come to realise many conditions people come to see me for can be profoundly helped using non-nutrition protocols.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying nutrition isn’t important. There are vital nutrients that our bodies need to function optimally. However all too often we look to it to solve everything and this is now leading to issues with orthorexia (an unhealthy obsession with healthy eating) and food anxieties, taking us further away from our intuition around food and what our bodies actually need.
It was my own chronic health issues and disordered eating that led me into nutrition where I thought I had finally found the solutions. I spent years eating the “ideal” foods and restricting many others. I tried vast quantities of supplements and endlessly experimented with the ever-changing protocols that I learnt about. Whilst there were certainly improvements, I always felt there was more work to do.
With many of my clients I became frustrated that I wasn’t able to give them what they really needed because they were so convinced that food was the root of their problem. With others they had such anxiety around food that it was often more helpful not to talk about it at all. And so I felt I needed more tools for them, and for myself.
I spent many years studying and training with some amazing and inspiring teachers enabling me to bring yoga, breathwork and mindfulness into my work, and all the benefits that these wonderful practices bring.
So, now I want to share these wonderful practices that have transformed my life and the lives of so many others…
