Yoga practice is about connection to self and connection to others. With that in our hearts, the Shala and Norman Blair will be running a Yin Yoga Workshop on the 2 December 2017, where all money raised will be donated to Ourmala.
Ourmala is a charity that brings yoga to refugees and asylum seekers in London, offering community and healing to those whom have suffered loss, trauma and hardships. Most of these people are recovering from torture, sexual abuse in conflict, human trafficking and/or other unimaginable atrocities and Ourmala offer them a way to heal, move on and find community.
The 3- hour yin yoga workshop will be an opportunity to luxuriate in a slow, meditative and deeply relaxing practice with Norman Blair, one of the UK's most experienced yin teachers. We will be encouraged to take time to "be", to slow down, release tension and explore our inner landscape with reflection and acceptance. Read more about yin yoga workshops here.
In donating to Ourmala, we will collectively facilitate yoga for refugees and asylum seekers who would not ordinarily have access to yoga and who will reap the benefits in a profound and life-changing way. The funds will go towards providing a yoga refuge to refugees – a safe space where healing begins and a community can blossom. We firmly believe in the power of yoga to heal trauma, inspire hope and project positivity beyond the individual mat into the wider world. Yoga teaches us compassion. Through our practices we can not only enhance our own lives but also the lives of others.
Lets come together and truly live yoga, getting on our mats as a yoga community and energetically (and financially) supporting the displaced and disenfranchised, helping “them “find strength, hope and a space to breathe through yoga”. See more about this amazing initiative in the video below.
The event is bookable below (at no charge) and we request that donations are made via the Shala’s My Donate page (which will allow you to add gift aid). The suggested minimum donation is £30.
